Soy Momos

A street food star in Delhi, Momos does not need to be introduced to Delhiites or those residing in the NCR region of India. Momos are tasty dumplings made with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. These have become the latest “fancy” of residents of Delhi and the NCR. I don’t know exactly when Delhi accepted these humble Tibetan dumplings and apparently made it their favorite snack.

Momos Vegetable Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 2 cups of maida
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

For filling:

  • 1 cup of grated carrots
  • 1 cup of shredded cabbage
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp of soy sauce
  • salt
  • 1/4 tsp vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

How to make vegetable momos
1.Mix the maida, salt and baking powder and knead into a stiff dough with water.
2.Heat the oil and add the onion and garlic.
3.Saute over high heat and add the carrot and cabbage. Return to high heat until shiny.
4. Remove from the heat and stir in the soy sauce, salt, vinegar and black pepper.
5. Roll the dough thinly (translucent) and cut into 4 “-5” rounds.
6.Take wet round edges and put some filling in the center.
7.Bring the edges together to cover the filling. Twist to seal and fill in the rest the same way.
8. Steam for about 10 minutes and serve with soy sauce and chili sauce.
