A traditional sweet Pongal recipe made in homes during South India’s biggest festival, Pongal. This sweet pongal recipe contains rice, coconut, lentils, dried fruit, milk and jaggery cooked together in a delicious dish.
Ingredients of Sakkarai Pongal
- 1 cup of rice
- 1/4 cup yellow moong dal
- 4 cups of milk
- 1 cup of jaggery
- 3 teaspoons of cashew nuts

- 3 teaspoons of raisins
- 5 nos cardamom
- 1/4 cup of ghee
- 1/2 cup coconut
How to make Sakkarai Pongal
1. Soak the rice and cook with roasted yellow dal moong with ghee and mash it properly over a slow flame. Add the jaggery and mix well.
2. Take another saucepan, put in the ghee and add the cashews, raisins and cardamom. Make it golden then add the rice preparation.
3. Remove and serve hot.
