Oats are rich in soluble fibers which help in lowering cholesterol levels. These soluble fibers help increase intestinal transit time and reduce glucose absorption. Oats also contain beta glucan which is a lipid lowering agent.

Ingredients of Oats Upma

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • ½ tsp jeera 
  • curry leaves
  • 10 cashew
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 chilli, slit
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • ½ carrot, finely chopped
  • 5 beans, chopped
  • ¼ capsicum, chopped
  • 2 tbsp peas 
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp coriander
  • 2 tbsp coconut
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

How to Make Oats Upma

  1. Take kadai heat oil and splutter mustard, urad dal, jeera, few curry leaves and cashews.
  2. Do cashews turn golden brown.
  3. Add ginger, chilli and onion, add carrot, beans, capsicum, peas, turmeric and salt.
  4. Add water and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add 1 cup water and get it to a boil.
  6. When water comes to a boil, add in roasted oats.
  7. Cover for 5 minutes.
  8. Add salt, coriander, coconut and 1 lemon juice.
  9. Enjoy vegetable oats upma as a healthy breakfast.
